Report: Wizards' Haywood has torn ligaments in wrist

Sports Network | October 08, 2008

Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Washington Wizards center Brendan Haywood reportedly has torn ligaments in his right wrist and will miss four- to-six months after undergoing surgery, putting his entire season in jeopardy.

The Washington Post cited Wizards' president Ernie Grunfeld, who stated Haywood will have surgery to repair a torn dorsal scapho-lunate ligament in his right wrist. Haywood visited two hand specialists earlier Wednesday, both of whom concluded that surgery was necessary according to the Post. He suffered the injury during training camp last week.

Haywood averaged a career-high 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds last season for Washington and matched a career-mark with 1.7 blocks per contest. The UNC product also set a new career-high for average minutes played with 27.9 per game and competed in 80 of 82 games.

The news comes one day after forward Antawn Jamison hurt his right knee in the first quarter of Tuesday's preseason opener against the Dallas Mavericks.

An MRI performed Wednesday revealed no further damage beyond a contusion, according to the Post. The two-time All-Star is expected to be ready for the team's regular-season opener.

Jamison averaged 21.4 points and 10.2 rebounds in 79 contests last season. During the offseason, Jamison re-upped with the Wizards in a four-year extension worth $50 million.

The Wizards are already without guard Gilbert Arenas likely for the next several months because of a knee injury.

BRANDON ROY FOR THE WIN!!!!
The minute crunch is much worse than last year. Go ahead and try to stick that Martell Webster slice back into the lineup. It’s pretty much impossible. Do you want Batum to play more than 14 minutes a game? Me too.

Last year when I posted the first pie chart, most people came to the conclusion that Jack and Jones were the most likely to leave the team. Looking at this new chart I would say Outlaw and Frye have the biggest chance of getting the boot, but maybe not both of them. It also seems pretty clear that we have way too many point guards.
