Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Rashard Lewis' three-pointer with 4.7 seconds to go gave the Orlando Magic a 96-94 win over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wachovia Center.
Lewis finished with 19 points, while Dwight Howard had 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Magic, winners in two straight and seven of their last eight. Tony Battie scored 20 points off the bench, going 9-for-9 from the floor.
Elton Brand finished with 21 points and six boards for the Sixers, who have lost two in a row. Andre Iguodala had 17 points, seven assists and six rebounds for Philadelphia in the loss.
Brand, who scored 17 of his points in the second half, connected on a pull-up jumper to give the Sixers a 92-88 lead with just over one minute remaining. But on the other end, Anthony Johnson drilled a three from the left corner as the clock rolled under one minute.
Andre Miller then attempted an off-balance jumper for Philadelphia, which was off the mark, and Orlando came down with the ball. Hedo Turkoglu then got to the free throw line after a drive, and made both for a 93-92 Magic lead with 35.3 remaining.
The Sixers maintained possession, and earned an inbounds pass after a foul. But Turkoglu swarmed Iguodala as he attempted to receive the ball, sending the Philadelphia guard to the line with 14.6 remaining. Iguodala made both for the 94-93 lead.
Orlando, though, went back to the left corner for another shot as Lewis drained a three with 4.7 ticks left to put his team up by two. Miller got the ball across halfcourt with a few seconds still remaining, but inexplicably threw up a shot from near the halfcourt line. It was unsuccessful, as Orlando held on for the win.
Orlando began the game on a 16-5 run, and led 26-19 after the first quarter. The Magic held the margin for the rest of the half, and went into the break with a 55-45 lead.
The Sixers entered the third quarter down by double digits, but used a 10-2 run to draw even with the Magic. Brand began the surge with a layup and followed with two free throws, then Samuel Dalembert dunked. After a Johnson layup for Orlando, Miller hit on a jumper and Thaddeus Young deposited a layup to make it a 63-63 contest with 4:41 left in the stanza.
The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, and Philadelphia went into the fourth with a 72-71 edge. The clubs traded baskets for the majority of the final stanza, leading to Brand's jumper with 1:15 left.
The Sixers had won three in a row at home, but fell to 5-3 as the host this season...Young and Lou Williams each finished with 13 points for Philadelphia...Turkoglu had 12 points for Orlando...Sixers rookie Marreese Speights tied a career high with 12 points.
